Raiders Fall to Green Bay in the Horizon League Championship Quarterfinal

DAYTON- The Wright State women's soccer team's season came to an end Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field as they fell 1-3 to Green Bay in the Horizon League Women's Soccer Championship.

Wright State (7-7-5, 4-1-5 HL) reached the Horizon League Championship for the first time since the 2023 season and recorded its first seven-plus win campaign since the 2022 season.

Green Bay controlled much of the first half of play, netting the first goal of the match in the 18th minute. Nell Smith fired a shot on goal that ricocheted off a couple of Raider defenders and ended up in the back of the net.

The Raiders would equalize the score in the 39th minute when Caitlin Burger sent a long cross into the box that found the head of Addy Canter. The junior rose above the pack and sent the ball into the back of the net past the outstretched hand of the Green Bay goalie.

The Phoenix would regain the advantage in the 45th minute when Charlise Smith sent a through ball up to the feet of Isabella Brozek. Brozek took a couple of dribbles and buried a left-footed strike into the bottom corner of the net.

Green Bay extended its lead to 3-1 in the 58th minute thanks to a goal off a header by Senah Hanes. Laney Stark sent a cross into the box that found an unmarked Hanes, who was able to send a powerful header into the back of the net.

In the box score, Wright State trailed Green Bay in shots (10-11), shots on goal (5-10), and corner kick opportunities (4-6). Burger led the Raiders with 88 minutes played, followed by Samara Nunn (83) and Kaitlyn Eyink (82).
