DAYTON – The Wright State volleyball team prevailed in a five-set marathon on Saturday afternoon, using a five-point run in the deciding set to grab a 3-2 victory over Youngstown State.
Wright State (12-6, 6-1 Horizon League) dropped the opening set, 25-22, before rallying back with 25-17 and 25-19 wins in sets two and three to take the lead. Youngstown State (7-11, 2-5 Horizon League) responded with a 25-18 fourth set win to stay alive and force the deciding set, with the Raiders using the five-point run to gain separation on the way to a 15-9 win.
The Raiders stay at home next week, welcoming Milwaukee to McLin Gymnasium next Friday and Saturday, with Friday's match scheduled to be streamed on ESPN+.
On Saturday,
Katie Sowko notched another double-double to pace the offensive attack, finishing with 19 kills and 17 digs, while
Mya Ayro (17) and
Elena Dubuc (11) also tallied double figure kills. Sowko also added three of Wright State's four service aces, adding four blocks as
Taylor Bransfield finished with a match-best five blocks.
Lauren Yacobucci passed out 52 of the Raiders' 59 assists, while
Taygan Corstange collected a match-best 21 digs to lead the back line.
Abbie Householder finished with a match-high 23 kills and added 11 digs for a double-double in the loss, while Gabriela Machin added 12 kills and Layne Graffice had 10 kills. Kameron Blizniak (49 assists, 13 digs) also finished with a double-double for the visitors.
