Williams Sets New Career High in Win over Tennessee State

NASHVILLE, TN- The Wright State women's basketball team earned the first win of its 2025-26 campaign Friday night, defeating Tennessee State 85-80.
 
Wright State (1-1) will return home to the Nutter Center for its 2025-26 home opener on Wednesday, November 12, against Wilberforce. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Fans can obtain a 2025-26 schedule poster.
 
Breezie Williams stole the show in Nashville, setting a new career high in points with 27. After being held to zero points in the season opener, the senior erupted for a new career high in points, shooting an impressive 55% from the floor and 60% from beyond the three-point line. To go along with the career high in points, Williams also recorded five rebounds, three assists, and two blocks in 32 minutes.
 
The Raiders opened the game firing on all cylinders, jumping out to a 12-6 lead early in the first quarter. The Tigers would take a five-point lead into the second quarter. Tennessee State led for all 10 minutes of the second quarter, outscoring the Raiders 21-20 in that frame.
 
Wright State dominated the third quarter and quickly erased its six-point halftime deficit, outscoring the Tigers 23-11 in the quarter. The Raiders held Tennessee State scoreless for the first three minutes of the half. WSU took the lead back with 3:37 left in the quarter and never gave it back.
 
The Raiders kept their foot on the gas, scoring 23 points in the final frame to keep the game out of reach for the Tigers. Tennessee chipped away at the Wright State lead, getting it down to as low as four, but Wright State responded right away, extending the lead back to six.
 
Lauren Scott (11), Claire Henson (10), Rylee Sagester (10), and Williams (27) all scored double digits for the Raiders. Chloe Chard Peloquin followed up her stellar performance against Butler with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds Friday night. Henson and Williams led the way with three assists apiece.
